Chongsheng Temple’s modern reconstruction was completed in April 2005.

Documented place and context#

The destination operator’s chronology dates completion of the reconstruction to 22 April 2005. This concerns the temple reconstruction, not the initial construction of the Three Pagodas. The temple’s historical association with the Nanzhao and Dali kingdoms does not date every building visible today to those periods.

Planning your visit#

Use 崇圣寺三塔 when identifying the destination, then distinguish a pagoda, a rebuilt hall and a museum display. Ask which part an account or photograph describes. Check the current visitor notice and access arrangements. Do not infer that a modern reconstruction is an untouched medieval structure or that a historic complex guarantees daily ceremonies.
