West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou is a World Heritage property combining the lake, hills and designed features.
Heritage context#
UNESCO identifies causeways, artificial islands, gardens, pavilions and religious buildings among its features. The inscription recognizes landscape-making as well as scenery. It should not be interpreted as a claim that every lakeside feature is untouched nature or that all of Hangzhou forms one listed property.
Planning your visit#
For a first plan, choose one shoreline section and one cultural stop. Decide separately whether you want a boat journey or an interior visit, then check those services with their operators. A nearby hotel’s location does not establish its walking access to your chosen entrance. Use the separate West Lake introduction for the distinction between the lake and its designed setting.
Scope#
This is a focused heritage-planning introduction, not a complete city itinerary or a personal visit report. The planning questions are editorial suggestions. Current prices, fixed journey times, restaurant certification and daily programmes are not asserted; check the named operator’s current visitor information.
