Miao New Year does not have one calendar date shared by every Miao community.
A specific heritage reference#
The National Ethnic Affairs Commission describes Miao New Year in parts of southeastern Guizhou and Rongshui, Guangxi, with dates in the ninth, tenth or eleventh Chinese calendar months. It notes that festivals vary between localities.
Before attending#
Identify the village or town and ask for its current announcement. Do not assume that a date for one community applies elsewhere. Confirm whether a gathering welcomes visitors and which activities are actually planned.
Scope#
The planning questions are editorial suggestions. This introduction does not supply a current booking, visitor invitation or a schedule for every community.
