The Qing emperor abdicated on 12 February 1912.
A documented milestone#
The Palace Museum’s account notes that the former imperial household initially remained within the palace after abdication. A political transition and the later conversion of palace spaces into a museum were separate processes.
Reading the evidence#
For a building or object, identify whether a date concerns production, imperial use, transfer or museum display. Do not assume that every palace function changed on the day of abdication or that a present exhibition recreates an untouched historical scene.
Scope#
These questions are editorial suggestions. This short introduction does not invent an interview or claim an exhaustive history.
