Fujian Tulou is a World Heritage property comprising selected earthen residential buildings in southwestern Fujian.

What the heritage record establishes#

UNESCO describes circular and square plans arranged around inward-facing communal spaces. The listed property contains selected buildings; it does not make every earthen house a listed component. A building’s regional architectural type does not establish the current access rights to its residential interior.

Planning your visit#

Ask a tour seller for the exact settlement and building names rather than accepting only the word tulou. Compare the actual journey and included entries for those named stops. At residential buildings, seek permission before entering private spaces or photographing residents. A photograph of a circular exterior does not confirm that an interior is included in your visit.
