NCCIH describes qigong as a practice involving attention, breathing, movement and posture.
Evidence and its limits#
The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health explains these psychological and physical components and reviews research by condition. A description of traditional aims or a public-park exercise session is not evidence that a particular illness is treated.
Questions for critical reading#
When checking a health claim, identify the exact condition, study design and measured outcome rather than treating “energy” as a measured benefit. For a class, ask who teaches it and what movements it involves. If considering it for a medical condition, discuss suitability with a qualified health professional rather than replacing treatment on the basis of a cultural article.
