Xuankong Temple is a cliffside complex in Hunyuan County, Shanxi.

What the reference establishes#

The Hengshan scenic-area management centre describes the temple’s setting and a hall containing images associated with Buddhism, Daoism and Confucian tradition. It also records repeated damage and rebuilding. The historical foundation should not be used to date every surviving wooden component to one period.

Questions for reading or visiting#

Use 悬空寺 and 浑源 when identifying the destination. Distinguish looking at the complex from below from access to its raised walkways. Read the current visitor notice for the part you intend to enter. An architectural description or an old photograph does not prove current access, structural details hidden from view or the safety of a particular visitor activity.
