The Leshan Giant Buddha is a 71-metre hillside carving in Sichuan, dating to the eighth century.
Heritage context#
UNESCO includes the Leshan scenic area within the Mount Emei World Heritage property. Its account places the carving above the meeting of three rivers. The property includes more than the statue alone.
Reading the site and planning access#
Distinguish the heritage property, scenic area and any specific viewing route when checking a ticket or transport announcement. Confirm current access with the operator. A monument’s dimensions do not establish that every stairway, boat service or viewpoint is open.
Scope#
Visitor questions are editorial suggestions. Historical descriptions and heritage boundaries are distinct from current operating arrangements.
