Its programme discusses his teaching and the subsequent reputation of Wing Chun. A film archive’s discussion of a historical teacher and screen representations should not turn every movie episode into biography.
Questions for critical reading#
When comparing a film with a biography, identify the source for each claimed event. Keep a dramatic fight scene, a student’s recollection and a dated document separate. For a quotation, seek the original interview or publication. Do not infer that one teacher invented a martial art or was its only route of transmission.
